A sus 36 años, el trompetista Roy Hargrove se ha establecido firmemente entre los primeros músicos de jazz. Por el estilo desafiante y vistoso con el que interpreta su música., Hargrove ha dejado una huella indeleble en el panorama jazzistico mundial.
Hargrove obtuvo por dos veces el premio Grammy por dos proyectos absolutamente distintos. En 1977 con la banda Crisol, que incluía al legendario pianista Chucho Valdés , al magnífico baterista Horacio “ElNegro” Hernández y al extinto Miguel “Angá” Díaz. Ganó el Best Latin Jazz Performance Grammy por su album “Habana”. Y en 2002, Hargrove, Herbie Hancock y Michael Brecker obtuvieron Best Instrumental Jazz Album, por “Directions in Music”.
